In honor of Twyla Tharp’s 70th birthday, The Washington Ballet mounts its first all-Tharp program. The program showcases works from three decades of Tharp’s prodigious career. From her ever-popular Nine Sinatra Songs danced to the music of Ol’ Blue Eyes and her best known “cross-over” ballet Push Comes to Shove set to a pulsating original score by “junk-music” creator Donald Knaack, to the company premiere of Surfer at the River Styx, Tharp’s choreography will display The Washington Ballet dancer’s at their best. From stage and screen, including two Broadway hits (Movin’ Out and Come Fly Away), don’t miss Washington Ballet’s exploration of one America’s truly legendary choreographer’s works.
